Well done and timely report. It is unfortunate that CUC waited for this crisis before considering investment in alternative energy sources. The writing has been on the wall for years.

I think your reporter is missing the point a bit. The question should be, with the price of oil at 6 month lows, and hovering at that price for over 3 months, why hasn't the price of fuel in Cayman been reduced at the pump yet?

It is unfortunate that CUC has chosen to STALL the the IDEA of implimenting alternative energy sources, because their existing ""SCHEME"" is working for their ""SHAREHOLDERS"" with an estimated 9 -12 Million per month just on the fuel charges alone, and never mind the fact that electricity bills/fuel charges are KILLING the country QUICKLY - Naahh... that wouldn't be an important factor even to the continued existence of CUC itself and the LIFE-SUCKING returns they are harvesting from this little nation. People, we must ALL understand that the big boys in the corporate world will ALWAYS find words and speeches to manipulate the minds/opinions of the public to keep the REAL TRUTH from us and to protect their future of super incomes and profits. That's just the way the world turns people. All we have to do is just to WAKE-the-heck-UP!!!

Excellent report, I think this will generate more discussions not just about the energy crisis but also becoming more environmentally conscious on a whole.

Your reporter missed the story. The story should be, why are gas prices at the pump still so high? Oil per barrel is down about 20 bucks, but the price of gas has not changed since June.
  8. Bossman
I have to agree with Larry moe,why aren't the prices at the gas pumps down? As prices rise overseas the price here rises instantly, but when price drops there is a long delay to pass it on to the consumers.

@ Larry Moe and Bossman... It's TIME for Boycotting and if that doesn't work then may a good RIOT!!

Larry Stooge/Larry Moe you're clearly the same person and clearly a muppet! In fact the reporter didn't miss the point at all, the story wasn't about fuel prices at the pump it was about the cost of power! I thought the reporter made that pretty clear and did a good job on this story.

My Condo Hydro bills in Cayman are up over 40% this year, the kw/hr rate is ridiculous. At home in Ontario the regular kw/hr rate is 8c CI and 5c CI off peak which came into effect with the recent introduction of "Smart Meters". Individuals installing Solar or Wind Power systems are reimbursed over 70c CI per kw/hr when they connect into the Provinces 'Grid' system to encourage this type of alternative energy. Why cannot the government legislate and encourage similar systems for Cayman? Ron C.
