Last Crown witnesses testify in Jeffers’ murder trial

The senior investigating officer and the last witness in the Crown’s case against Raziel Jeffers takes the stand.

28-year-old Jeffers faces a 6-count indictment for the Bonaventure triple shooting, including the murder of 20-year-old Marcus Ebanks and the attempted murder of four others.

Detective Superintendent Kurt Walton told the court he flew to Miami a week after the shooting to collect a police statement from witness Adryan Powell, who is now paralysed.

Mr. Powell fingered Mr. Jeffers as one of the masked gunmen who shot him in 2009, but police did not charge Jeffers until May 2010. Mr. Walton told the court he charged Mr. Jeffers once he got the directive from the legal department.

In cross examination, the defence suggested Mr. Walton had a bias against Mr. Jeffers. Mr. Walton remained adamant he treated the defendant with equality and fairness.
