UPDATED: 9:30 AM –Speed played a role, police say

Police are releasing more details about Friday night’s fatal crash.

A police spokesperson said “10:24 p.m. on Friday, 27th January 2012, an eastern district police patrol vehicle came upon a fatal one-car crash on Sea View Road, East End.”

“The vehicle was travelling west on Sea View Road apparently at a high rate of speed.  The 42-year-old male driver was unaccompanied when he was negotiating a right-hand corner; he apparently lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle skidded across the right hand side of the road and collided with almond and coconut trees and then came to rest on the right shoulder of the road.”

Police also say the driver was trapped, and it took the fire crews personnel some time to extricate the driver from the vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital.

So,,,, shiny chrome rims, thin fancy tires, dark tinted windows, 10:24 at night,,,can you say "Thug-Mobile"? And by now, I am sure thata next of kin has been notified. Thus, whay withhold the name of the "Victim". Must be a relative of someone important. Also, why was there a Toxicology kit on scene? Maybe drugs or alcohol related? Great reporting gang. I look forward to more "Coming up" Nuff Said

"Thug -Mobile? Maybe alcohol or drug related? Why was there a toxicology kit on the scene? Why should that matter to you Mark? The fact is no matter if this man was a member of a gang or had any-kind of gang or drug affiliations...he was still someones child, someones son, someones brother, uncle, nephew or friend. Human life is valuable and a human being life has been loss here ...where is your respect for the dead? The bible says and i quote..."Only I the lord God is to judge any man for vengeance is mines" ....so please stop judging and making accusations or assumptions, and let this young man R.I.P. May God bless his family in time of their grief.

I really don't know why people have to speak so ill of people either dead or alive. For those that don't know him who are you to Judge him? Hermond Byrd was a GOOD MAN, a Wonderful Friend and Vey Compassionate HUMAN BEING. To his family I extend my DEEPEST CONDOLENCES. R.I.P. KLING KLING LOVE ALWAYS .... XO XO XO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Loveshack I totally agree, when I first read the post by Mark W I decided not to dignify it with a comment because it just goes to show how callus and judgmental people are. Herman was a very good person with a huge heart and he was liked and loved. How can the mindless, heartless (IDIOT) above make assumptions simply based on a person's car? DO YOU KNOW HERMAN Mr. Mark W to draw such hasty conclusions? A person has the right to drive what they like and what they can afford, they also have the right to add accessories but I guess Mark W would have preferred to have seen another "type" of vehicle crashed perhaps a wheelbarrow with an engine would have suited him, it doesnt matter the fact is someone has lost his life and all people can do is judge. OBVIOUSLY he hasn't seen some of the personal vehicles of many police officers that are lowered almost to the road, tinted 5%, rimmed up and all the works are those considered "thug mobiles". Hermon's death is a great tragedy as with any loss of life, this man has friends and family who will no doubt check on the news updates so I beg people to be thoughtful and considerate as a family is grieving.

HE WAS LOVED BY ALL THAT KNEW HIM!!

I bet the comments would have been much different if Mr. Byrd had hit a nine year old child, or, smashed into someone's wife coming home from work, or god forbid, struck an MLA's family member. Everyone was lucky "This Time". As we've heard before,,,"No Shots Fired !" Had the precious Mr. Byrd been obeying the speed limit, and not out terrorizing the roads late at night, he would still be alive!!! Point was, as RCIP stated, the gentleman was speeding. And as seen in the past, the crashed vehicle appeared to fit the motive of a speed mobile / Thug Mobile. I am awaiting the report from hospital. I would like to see the blood report of the victim. Then,we can make judgment. However, we will probablty never here about the true outcome. Nuff Said.

@ Mark W “10:24 p.m. on Friday, 27th January 2012, an eastern district police patrol vehicle came upon a fatal one-car crash on Sea View Road, East End.” Since when is 10:24pm considered late on a Friday night? I do recognize that speed was a factor but speed or alcohol is almost always a factor in these types of fatalities, my point remains the same and I stand firmly by my belief that we are ALL human and there should be regard when posting on a public forum for other readers and especially for those that the deceased has left behind. It is evident that you are bitter and angry and have no tact or decorum. How would you feel if it were your loved one, friend or acquaintance and persons came online so quick to pass judgement? Herman is not a relative of mine but I did know who he was as many people do but knowing him or not does not negate the fact that a life has been lost whether thru his own recklessness or vehicle malfunction or whatever it has yet to be determined and therefore YOU Mr. Mark W and those like you should reserve your demeaning comments until the facts are brought to light.

I WOULD LIKE TO MEET THIS MARK W. OBVIOUSLY HE HAS NEVER LOST A LOVED AND HAS NEVER IMAGINED LOOSING ONE UNDER ANY SORT OF TRAGIC CIRCUMSTANCES. THE THOUGHT ALONE BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES. DEATH IS THE FINAL DESTINATION, TRAGIC DEATH IS A VERY PERSONAL MATTER. IT MATTERS NOT HOW THIS PERSON, THIS MAN, THIS HUMAN BEING, THIS SON, FATHER, BROTHER, FRIEND DIED AND WHAT HE DID TO CAUSE IT. THE FACT IS, IS THAT HE NO LONGER IS. NO MORE SMILES, NO MORE HUGS, NO MORE VOICE ON THE OTHER END OF THE TELEPHONE, AND FOR HIS MOTHER NO MORE EXPECTING HIM TO COME UP THE WALK WAY OF HER HOME, FOR HIS CHILDREN (IF HE HAD ANY) NO MORE DADDY!! IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT WHATEVER DECISIONS, WHATEVER CIRCUMSTANCES THAT LEAD TO HIS DEATH ARE NOW FOREVER ETCHED IN THE HEARTS OF THOSE CLOSEST TO HIM. BROKEN HEARTS FOREVER WOUNDED, BROKEN DREAMS AND EXPECTATIONS. MARK I BELIEVE YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN TOUCHED BY DEATH. AND YOUR VALUE FOR ANOTHERS LIFE DESPITE WHO THEY WERE IS ZERO. YOU HAVE GIVEN US AN BIT OF INSIGHT INTO YOUR SOUL, AND I FEAR ITS A SAD ONE.

RIP Uncle Herman, may you soul be at peace we love you and you'll be missed. Love always your Niece Amanda.
  10. Appalled
@ MIA I fully agree with your statement. This Mark W guy has alot of nerve and no regard for another man's life. Had it been a family member of his I bet he wouldn't have so much to say. His remarks are DISGUSTING.
  11. East Ender
Mark W. I was acquainted with Mr. Byrd and always found him very friendly and decent. Your comments are totally disgusting. Although he MAY have been driving at a high rate of speed I know for a fact that this is a bad corner and the lighting on the south side of the road is non-existent. Therefore, if he was driving west he would have been on the south side and possibly could not see very well. It is the job of the RCIPS to determine the cause of the accident and if you read the above article it does not say it was a high rate of speed it says apparently which to me is inconclusive. Give the man and his family a break and keep your hateful opinions to yourself.
