West Bay detectives are investigating an aggravated burglary at the home of an elderly couple in the Magellan Quay area. A police car responding to the incident crashed on the way to the report.
Police say about 2:30 a.m. this morning, the couple who are in their 80’s, awoke and disturbed three masked intruders.
“It would appear that one of the three suspects was in possession of what appeared to be a firearm; the intruders demanded cash from the couple,” a police spokesperson said.
“One of the victims was able to activate the burglar alarm and the three intruders ran off from the house. It has not yet been established what has been stolen.”
The victims are not injured, but have been left shaken by the ordeal.
No shots were fired.
The only description available for the suspects at this time is that they all wore dark clothing and their faces were covered.

Police car crash responding to burglary report
A police vehicles which was responding to the aggravated burglary at the elderly couple’s residence was involved in a collision with another vehicle in the vicinity of Jacques Scott at the junction of Shedden Road.
“As is normal policy following a collision, both drivers were required to take breath tests. The police driver passed this test and the other driver, who refused to take the test, was arrested on suspicion of DUI,” a police spokesperson said.
He has been bailed to appear at court at a later date. Following the collision the police driver attended hospital. At this moment in time her injuries are not believed to be serious.
