USG recovers handgun from man and teen

Armed officers from the Royal Cayman Police Service Uniform Support Group (USG) on routine patrol recovered a handgun from two men in Windsor Park. One of the men is 24 and the other 16-years-old.

Police say they searched and arrested the two men around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday, 5 February, on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police did not say who had the handgun or if it was found near the suspects.

Both men remain in custody as the investigation continues.

The arrest comes despite police efforts to be more connected with people in the Windsor Park neighbourhood. Just last month, police and Crime Stoppers handed over sporting equipment to help provide better relationships and positive outlets for young people in the community.

Anyone with information about gun crime in the Cayman Islands should contact any police station, the RCIPS tips line 949-7777, or the Confidential Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS).
