Tax opposers worried for safety

The government prepares to address the public about the proposed Community Enhancement Fee for work permit holders. However, those opposed to government’s plan disagree about where they should voice their concerns.

Cayman 27′s Tammi Sulliman has the report.

There is alot of exaggeration. I went to the meeting and there wasn’t any garrison community there. There some people who were loud and vented their frustrations, but there was garrison. Even Billy Adams spoke freely at the meeting. But one resonated – this was not an issue of expats versus Caymanians. Rather, it was an issue of ALTERNATIVES OF REVENUE. The Opposition is saying that government should get its revenue by increasing fees whilst Government is saying that if it increased fees anymore and cut the civil service, there will be social discord and hence they had to introduce a DIRECT TAX that would effect the Caymanian. There was little talk of it being discriminatory.

Someone mention that the Premier was seeking Indepedence, but rather what he was seeking, was FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE from being micromanaged by the UK.

Expats Already contribute The signifcant portion of the governments revenues more than 50% already originate from Expat workers. Why are “Caymanians” Suggesting that Expats do not contribute at all and need to pay more. The Expat Commuinty accounts for approximately two thirds of the total head count on the island. That means the majority of imports such as food, gas, and so on… this is all direct revenue to the Government Levied as Import dutys further Workpermit Fee’s account for tens of millions of dollars per year most likly much much more.

If the Government wants to maintain such a high level of wasteful spending They will need to consider much more significant revenue sources Such as gaming if casino’s were introduced A port would be built for free for cayman this offer was already made years ago. property values in the resort areas would soar as billions of dollars flood into the local markets builing up the infrastructure for the industry Dart would have lots of competition on his hands.

I believe that there is no way this Tax is foreced, This is the result of years of irrisponcible choices that are contiunuing and will only get worse. The government will spend every penny it can get its hands on if its taken through fee’s and dutys or lent to them by finiancial institutions.
