Speaker okay after New Zealand quake

Speaker of the House Hon. Juliana O’Connor Connolly is in New Zealand attending the 22nd Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth. She arrived in New Zealand on Saturday just hours before a magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit the country.

Ms. O’Connor Connolly posted on her Facebook page that she experienced the tremor, but she is okay. Around 180 delegates from throughout the Commonwealth are attending the conference which officially opens Wednesday, 22 January.

Ms. O’Connor Connolly is accompanied by the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly Zena Merren-Chin.

The conference ends on Friday.
