Posted Wed, Nov 25th 2009, 19:58(Grand Cayman - CITN) -
A violent assault at John Gray High School left a student in the hospital and a teacher with a small stab wound.
Police confirm a Year 12 girl remains in hospital with stab wounds. She was attacked with a pocketknife by another female student on school grounds.
A student at the school tells us the victim was stabbed in the chest and hand, during the assault which happened around 10 o'clock this morning. The two girls are understood to have been friends.
Police say the victim's injuries are not life threatening, and her attacker has been arrested. She's still in police custody.
Minister of Education, Rolston Anglin, says a teacher tried to stop the fight and suffered a cut to the hand. He also says parents shouldn't be alarmed and that this is the first incident of its kind this school year.
Mr. Anglin further says the school does have 10 security officers on the grounds during the day.
News 27 also spoke briefly with the Acting Principal of John Gray, Alan Hewitt, who didn't want to comment.
