A 48-year-old man is due to appear before the courts today (9 December) charged with a number of offences relating to a cellular phone top-up fraud.

According to a police spokesperson, “Ortillo Reyes Santiago, a Dominican National, has been charged with one count of obtaining property by deception. He has also been charged with four counts of transfer of criminal property and four counts of use of criminal property all in contravention of the Proceeds of Crime Law 2008.”

In April 2009, police were alerted that a number of credit cards had been used fraudulently to obtain top-up credit for mobile phones via the internet.

Officers from the RCIPS Financial Crime Unit conducted extensive enquiries which resulted in the arrest of Mr. Santiago.
