Miller questions legality of proposed pay cuts
Posted Wed, Mar 3rd 2010, 19:21(Grand Cayman - CITN) -
In a press conference today (3 March), Independent MLA Ezzard Miller questioned whether the wage cuts proposed by Premier the Honourable McKeeva Bush are legal.
Mr. Miller says he doesn't mind taking a pay cut himself, but says the Premier can't make that decision in a mere statement to the Legislative Assembly. Mr. Miller is now asking government to call an emergency Finance Committee meeting to address the financial crisis and ensure any decisions made are actually legal.
Mr. Miller is also concerned the pay cuts may not be the answer to Cayman's financial problem and it will be seen as a kind of income tax –one that's only imposed on civil servants.
He's hoping the emergency Finance Committee meeting can be called as early as 10 March.
