Appeals Court hearing some high profile cases
Posted Tue, Mar 9th 2010, 19:53(Grand Cayman - CITN) -
The Appeals Court continues and several high profile cases are before the three appeals judges and the Crown is appealing the not guilty verdict against Josue Carillo Perez.
He was accused of killing Canadian Martin Gareau in May of 2008. Perez’s trial was heard by judge alone late last year. At the time Justice Roy Anderson said the circumstantial evidence presented by the Crown did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt Perez committed the brutal killing.
A decision in the appeals is expected some time next week.
William Martinez McLaughlin, the man sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of Brian Rankine Carter in May 2008 is appealing his conviction.
A jury found Martinez McLaughlin guilty of the crime in July of last year. It was on the current appeals list, but the appeal is now expected to be heard later this year in August.
