(Grand Cayman - CITN) -

About 800 hundred civil servants attended an emergency meeting last night to discuss the possible pay cuts.

Cameras were not allowed in but News 27 has learned that the Premier took some questions from the crowd before government officials left.

We were also told many questions were asked but there were no immediate answers to a lot of them.

Civil servants at the meeting took a survey to see what kinds of cuts they are willing to accept.  The Civil Service Association will now have to present those findings to government tomorrow (Wednesday, 10 March).

There's growing speculation that government is counting on wage cuts to balance its budget.  But the Civil Servants Association is unhappy that government hasn't taken up some of its cost-cutting suggestions from last year.
