An earthquake hits turkey early Monday morning and reports say around 51 people were killed when the 6.0 earthquake hit eastern Turkey just before 5 a.m.
Residents have felt dozens of aftershocks and many people have reportedly been injured.
The Turkish quake comes on the heels of quakes in Taiwan, Chile, and Haiti, raising questions of a link. But according to the U.S. geological survey, the earth usually has one magnitude 8 or stronger earthquake per year, and around 132 earthquakes a year with a magnitude of between 6.0 and 6.9.
Scientists also say the recent earthquakes are not abnormal in frequency, but have received more focus because of the loss of human life.
