Doppler goes live

It’s Cayman’s first line of defence against hurricanes, and during the early hours of Friday (17 May), the Doppler Weather System went online. Built in East End at a cost of more $4m, with cash provided by the European Union, the radar will give early warning of the strength and size as hurricanes approach.

Although officially opened back in April, the weather centre, named after former government chief officer Kerney Gomez, only went live at one 1 a.m. Friday (17 May).
