A West Bay neighbourhood is left littered with bullet fragments after a series of shootings over 24-hours.
When a News 27 crew came out to one of the shooting scenes today (15 January) the police were gone and there were bullet fragments and shells still lying on the ground outside the West Bay home and inside a meter box. The neighbourhood is on edge after police received reports of what could be up to four different shootings [click here for related story].
Residents at the West Bay home say police officers left the scene several hours before the News 27 crew arrived but did not take all the evidence with them. Resident also said they called police and asked why all of the evidence was not collected and police told them an officer would come back to check it out. Four hours later, police did not show up so they called the television station to show what they described as the “incompetence” of the Royal Cayman Police Service.
News 27 contacted the RCIPS and a spokesperson initially said there was no evidence left behind but later responded with the following statement, “The scene was secured overnight and into the early part of this afternoon to allow full scenes of crime examination to take place. Officers removed a number of items from the property and the surrounding area for analysis. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
Police also say the RCIPS will conduct will conduct a full review into this matter. News 27 will bring you more on the story on Monday, 18 January.
